Hey y'all! If you're new to my blog, welcome. It's been a while. I know, and I'm sorry! Here I am to say I'll be back and I plan to update at least once a week, and the regular update time will be Tuesdays at 10 AM in Eastern Standard Time. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, Happy Holidays! I know it's been rough, but we made it. Here's how I'm getting into the spirit of the season. 1. Dressing Up! It's not much, but dressing up in "holiday" colors really gets me in the mood to celebrate! My go to is my favorite red sweater and a forest green bandanna, but I'm not afraid to toss it up with some funky colors pants or a neat skirt every now and then. I also have some pretty great Christmas earrings that I'll break out soon. 2. Music As a creative person, I would be remiss to not include music on this list. Whether it's a holiday station in the car or a Christmas lofi mix on YouTube as I chip away at homework, it's an easy way to brighten my mood and get ready for the holidays. I've had this lofi mix on repeat! 3. Decorating I love decorating! I help my grandmother decorate as well as decorating my own home with my parents. Next year at college, I will definitely decorate my dorm! Paper chains and dollar tree window clings are just as effective as expensive materials, so if you're struggling, try to remember: it's not how much you spend or how much the item is worth; it's about the thought and the effort behind it. Some of my fondest holiday memories are from years where we were struggling. We always had each other, and that made celebrating worth it. 4. Scents Holiday candles and air fresheners rock! Scents like cinnamon and pine and peppermint keep me moving during those cold days, I swear. Dollar Tree and Wal-Mart have some great, affordable options and I hear TJ Maxx has some great mid-range options that are still cheaper than Bath and Body Works. 5. Spending Time with Loved Ones This may seem a bit obvious, but sometimes the simplest solutions are the ones we most overlook! Every year I worry that this may be my last holiday with my grandparents, so I take extra time to cherish my grandmother singing "Silver Bells" and making pies and my grandfather's dry sense of humor and rough hugs. Spending time with them around the holidays always makes me a bit emotional even as I spend the year with them (as their grandchild and next door neighbor). It makes me incredibly humbled and grateful. These are just some easy, quick ways I get into the holiday spirit! I think Tuesday's post will be a blog about how I plan on celebrating Yule as a practicing pagan! Much love to everyone, I hope time and the holidays are treating you kindly. Until next blog! -m.s.r.
